Hope Channel Presents: Global Affairs Today

Silver Spring, MarylandMar 31, 2021, 3:48 PM

Global Affairs Today premiered on Hope Channel North America on March 28, 2021 at 11 AM ET. This series will broadcast weekly on DirecTV 368 and the Hope Channel website, Sundays at 11 AM ET.

Global Affairs Today is a program that explores issues constantly seen and heard in the 24-hour news cycle, but often are not talked about in-depth, or in ways that get to the heart of the matter. The topics covered come straight from the headlines, including questions surrounding protest and politics, church and state, and threats to religious liberty and free speech around the globe. No matter the issue discussed, Global Affairs Today views the subject through the prism of Seventh-day Adventist biblical faith and values.

“It’s sometimes been said that religion and politics are two topics that don’t belong in polite conversation,” says Bettina Krause, producer for Global Affairs Today. “But as Seventh-day Adventists, we believe faith and biblical values can truly illuminate the way we see and understand the world around us—including challenging issues of public policy. With this program, we want to create a space for respectful dialogue about current events and difficult topics and bring insights and perspectives that viewers may not find anywhere else.”

According to Dr. Ganoune Diop, executive producer of Global Affairs Today and director of Public Affairs and Religious Liberty for the Seventh-day Adventist world church, the goals of the program reflect the Adventist Church’s 150-year history of engagement with public affairs. “At the heart of all our advocacy efforts in the public space through the decades has been our conviction that every human being is endowed by their Creator with both freedom and infinite worth,” he says. “The topics we’re exploring on Global Affairs Today—whether we’re talking about racism, refugees, religious freedom, or other civil rights—all intersect with this reality about the innate dignity and value of every person.”
