Participating in the Mission of Jesus

Colossians 4 highlights how the early church joined together in “Participating in the Mission of Jesus” through many different believers—messengers, prayer warriors, leaders, encouragers, and helpers. Paul mentions people like Tychicus, Onesimus, Epaphras, and Luke, showing that God uses all kinds of people in His work. Even those who once failed, like John Mark, were restored and became valuable in ministry.

Living with Each Other

Drawing from Colossians 3 and 4, this study explores how Christ transforms the way believers relate to spouses, children, coworkers, and everyone around them. Paul emphasizes mutual submission, sacrificial love, patient instruction, and the avoidance of harsh or discouraging behavior. Even in difficult social structures, he calls Christians to work with integrity, treat others with fairness, and remember that all service is ultimately for the Lord.

Living with Christ

Living with Christ explores how followers of Jesus can experience real change by seeking the things above and embracing the new life He offers. Paul reminds believers to let go of harmful attitudes and actions, allowing Christ to renew their hearts. He calls the church to clothe itself with compassion, humility, patience, forgiveness, and love. By letting God’s Word dwell richly within and by relying on the Holy Spirit, Christians grow in strength and spiritual focus.

Complete in Christ

Colossians 2 points believers to Christ as the One in whom all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge are found, calling them to remain steadfast in their faith. Paul expresses deep concern that persuasive false teachings could draw them away from the simplicity of the Gospel, reminding them that rituals or human traditions cannot complete them—only Christ can. He urges them to walk in Jesus as they first received Him, grounded, rooted, and knit together in love.

Reconciliation and Hope

Centered on Colossians 1, this study highlights God’s desire to reconcile every person fully to Himself through Christ’s saving work. Paul describes how Jesus brings peace through His death, transforms those once alienated, and creates new life from the inside out. Believers are invited to continue in faith, grow in grace, and rely on the power of Christ living within them.

The Preeminence of Christ

Colossians 1 reveals the majesty of Christ, emphasizing His preeminence as Redeemer, Creator, and the visible expression of the invisible God. Paul describes Jesus as the One who delivers us from darkness, forgives our sins, and reconciles us to God through His sacrificial death. He affirms Christ’s eternal nature, His role in creating and sustaining all things, and His headship over the church. This portrait of Jesus invites believers to trust fully in His power, love, and authority.

Living as Citizens of a Heavenly Kingdom

Philippians 3:20–4:19 highlights the hope and identity believers have as citizens of a heavenly kingdom. Paul contrasts earthly-minded influences with the life of those who follow Christ and encourages believers to imitate godly examples. He urges them to stand firm in the Lord, rejoice always, pray about everything, and set their minds on what is true, pure, and praiseworthy. Even in hardship, contentment is possible through Christ’s strength and the assurance that God supplies every need.

Confidence Only in Christ

Philippians chapter 3 presents a powerful contrast between human self-confidence and complete dependence on Christ. Paul lists his impressive religious background and accomplishments, only to declare them worthless when compared with the surpassing value of knowing Christ Jesus as Lord. True righteousness, he explains, does not come from keeping the law, but from God through faith in Christ.

Shining as Lights in the World

Based on Philippians chapter 2, this lesson explains what it means to shine as lights in a dark world. It emphasizes that while salvation is God’s work, believers cooperate through daily surrender, trust, and obedience. A Christ-centered life marked by humility and free from complaining becomes a living witness. The examples of Timothy and Epaphroditus illustrate practical, selfless service that reflects Jesus.

Unity in Christ

Based on Paul’s counsel in Philippians chapter 2, this lesson highlights the contrast between the causes of disunity—selfish ambition, pride, and division—and the humility shown by Jesus. His willingness to lower Himself and serve becomes the model for restoring harmony among believers. The study emphasizes that true unity is the work of the Holy Spirit, who fills the heart with God’s love.

Life and Death

This lesson focuses on Philippians chapter 1 and Paul’s bold declaration, “For to me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain.” It highlights his courage and joy during imprisonment, knowing that even suffering could advance the Gospel. The study emphasizes that Christ’s resurrection removes the fear of death and calls believers to live lives worthy of the Gospel. It also shows how faithfulness in trials can inspire others to stand firm in unity and love.

Reasons for Thanksgiving and Prayer

Focusing on Paul’s letters to the Philippians and Colossians, this lesson examines the theme “Reasons for Thanksgiving and Prayer.” It highlights how gratitude and faith can thrive even in times of trial, as Paul gives thanks and prays with joy while imprisoned. The study emphasizes that God is faithful to finish the work He starts in His people and calls believers to grow in love, joy, and spiritual strength.
